Cecil H. Burnison, age 80, of 520 18th St. SW, Huron, died Monday, March 17, 2008 at the Huron Regional Medical Center. His funeral service will be at 10:30 AM Thursday, March 20, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Richard Rinearson officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 1:00 to 8:00 PM at the Welter Funeral Home with the family present from 7:00 to 8:00 PM or one hour prior to the service at the church Thursday morning. Cecil Howard Burnison was born on September 9, 1927, to Samuel and Agnes (Schmidt) Burnison at Alpena, SD. He graduated from Alpena High School in 1945. On April 24, 1948, Cecil married Helen Martha Winter at the Congregational Church in Alpena and they made their home in Huron. Cecil was employed at his fathers implement business, worked at Pontiac Motor Company from 1948 until 1955, and the Daily Plainsman Newspaper from 1955 until his retirement in 1992. Cecil was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and was involved with the Jaycees, Huron Country Club, and Elks. He enjoyed farming, raising cattle, working on cars, hunting, and their cabin in Spearfish Canyon which they purchased in 1987. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Helen Burnison of Huron; five children, Paula (Alan) Hauber of Wausau, WI, Mary (David Krall) Burnison of St. Paul, MN, Carleen (Russ) Hovendick of Sioux Falls, Kent (Sue) Burnison of Spearfish and Lori (Jim) Entwisle of Huron; 10 grandchildren, Erin Hauber, Ryan Hauber, Shane Burnison, Carrie Fremont, Lindsay King, Darin Hovendick, Sam Krall, Megan Entwisle, Lavin Entwisle and Cassidy Entwisle; one brother, Earl (Verna) Burnison of Huron and one sister, Dorothy (Dean) Berkley of Bloomington, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, K. LeRoy Burnison.
