Cecelia Ann "Cel" Halter, age 74, of Huron, passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls after a valiant fight with cancer.
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish with private burial at St. Martin's Cemetery at a later date.
Visitation with the family present will be from 5-7 pm on Monday at Welter Funeral Home with a scripture service and rosary service beginning at 6:30 pm; or visitation one hour prior to the funeral mass at the church.
Cecelia Ann (Nelson) Halter was born September 2, 1941 to Ernest and Callista (Winker) Nelson at home in Kingsbury county. She attended school in Oldham, SD, graduating in 1959. She moved to Huron in the summer of 1959 and began working at Red Owl and then Ruby Ann Bakery.
Cecelia met Robert (Bob) Halter in 1960 and married in 1961 in Oldham.
She stayed at home until all the children were in school. She then went to work at Wilbrecht's and Leisure Technology. When Bob started his own business, Central Service in 1983, she became the office manager until retirement. In 1989, they moved everything, including their house, from east of Huron to south of Huron.
Cel's strong faith and belief in the Lord, guided her through her life. Cel had a love for horses, birds and the outdoors, as well as camping. She also enjoyed scrapbooking, genealogy, reading, playing card games and especially her "family time". She was a member for over 50 years in the "Country Neighbors" extension club.
She is survived by her husband, Bob, of nearly 55 years; two daughters, Jackie (Randy) Winegar of Huron, and Angie of Sioux Falls; two sons, Bryan of Yale, Steven (Staci) of Huron; one granddaughter, Jennifer (Brett) Miller of Tea; three step-grandchildren, Madison and Nathan Sowle of Huron, Tabatha (Terry) Nedved of Alpena; three great grandchildren and three step-great grandchildren; four sisters, Delores Peterson of Alexandria, Rosie (Charlie Brown) Warner of Sioux Falls, Mary Hitzemann of Sioux Falls and Karen (Fred) Walters of Council Bluffs, IA.
She is preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Shirley Nelson; one niece, Shelli Eberle; one great-niece, Tanna Kingsbury; three brothers-in-law, Eugene Halter, Darrell Peterson and Robert Hitzemann.
