Catherine Walter, 93, of 1321 S. 8th Street, Omaha, NE, and formerly of the Carrpenter/Hitchcock area, died Tuesday morning, July 3, 2007, at the Bergan Mercy Medical Center in Omaha, NE. Her funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 7, at the Hutterthal Mennonite Church at rural Carpenter with Rev. Harold Berry officiating. Burial will be in the Hutterthal Mennonite Cemetery. Friends may call Friday evening, July 6, at the Welter Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. and prior to the service at the church on Saturday morning. Catherine Hofer was born on March 7, 1914, to Paul J.R. and Anna (Tschetter) Hofer at Bridgewater, SD. In 1926 her family moved to the Hitchcock area. On July 10, 1943, she married Eldon D. Walter in a ceremony preformed by her father at the home of the grooms mother in rural Carpenter. They made their home on farms in the Carpenter and Hitchcock areas until 1951 when they moved to Omaha, NE, so Eldon could attend Grace Bible Institute (now Grace University). Catherine was not only a homemaker, but while living in Omaha she was also employed in the kitchen at Grace for 21 years. Catherine loved flowers, which was evident by the familys yard and all the flowers in their home. She spent many hours planting, watering and weeding her flowers. Catherine also loved to cook and was always looking for new recipes to try. She liked to bake things to give away, too. Catherine was a member of Faith Bible Church, and over the years taught childrens Sunday School and was active in the Ladies Fellowship. She was also involved in many supportive rolls in the church. Catherine is survived by her daughters, Kathy and Lynnette Walter of Omaha, NE; 1 sister, Anne Tschetter of Huron, SD; 4 brothers and 3 sisters-in-law, Paul K. Hofer of Hitchcock, SD, Joe P. and Donna Hofer of Huron, SD, Edwin P. and Josephine Hofer of Brookings, SD, and Eldon P. and Bertha Hofer of Huron, SD; 2 sisters-in-law, Kassy Wipf of Brookings, SD, Kathy Walter of Council Bluffs, IA; 3 brothers-in-law and 2 sisters-in-law, Lloyd Olson of St. Louis Park, MN, Ivan and Tilly Walz of Huron, SD, and Milton and Marilyn Walter of Rapid City, SD; and nieces and nephews. Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Eldon (1990), a brother, John S. Hofer, a sister, Marie Wipf, and 3 sisters-in law and 2 brothers-in-law. Catherine died on Tuesday morning, July 3, 2007, at Bergan Mercy Medical Center in Omaha, NE, at the age of 93. Catherines father passed away on the same day in 1979.
