Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, March 19, 2026 at Faith Alive Community Church in Huron, with burial to follow at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Carole Jean Miller was born on September 27, 1949 to parents Gerald and Grace (Wessels) Sheridan in Huron, South Dakota. She attended school in Huron, graduating from high school in 1968. After graduation, Carole joined the United States Army where she received training as an air traffic controller and worked in the control tower at Fort Lewis, Washington. Carole followed in her three brothers’ footsteps who were already in the military, including her twin brother, Darrell, who served in the US Navy. Carole enjoyed the time they both were at Fort Lewis and she got to tour the ship Darrell was serving on.

After being honorably discharged, Carole moved back to Huron and began her career in trucking. She worked for Bale’s Continental Commission Company loading and unloading cattle with the help of her beloved Sheltie dog, Tina. She then wanted to try trucking herself and began work with Payne Transportation. A typical load for her would include driving solo to California and back. She loved to see the country on her trips. Carole met her future husband, Doug Miller, a fellow truck driver. After the couple married, they had one daughter, Rebecca Grace, named after Carole’s mother and grandmother. After the couple divorced, Carole and Rebecca moved in with her grandmother to help care for her.

Carole was a member of First United Methodist Church (Faith Alive Community Church). She enjoyed teaching Sunday school and helping in the nursery. She also enjoyed bowling, camping, fishing, and crocheting. Carole was always a caretaker and enjoyed taking care of many family members throughout her life. Carole became a resident of Prairie View Care Center for the last 8 years. Her family is thankful for all the care given to her in the last years by staff and Avera Hospice team.

She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca (Andrew) Champion of Texas; her grandchildren, Ashton, Tatum and Preston; her twin brother Darrell (Cindy) Sheridan of Huron and her brother Gary (Vickie) Sheridan of Italy, Texas; her sister-in-law Peggy Sheridan and her brother-in-law Bill Fast; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Mary Jane Fast and her brother Gerry Sheridan.
