Obituary

Carol K. Galliger, age 68, of 757 Michigan Ave. SW, Huron, died Monday, December 29, 2008, at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD, after a long battle with Leukemia.

Her memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 3, at First Presbyterian Church in Huron, with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Her body has been cremated, and there will be no interment.

Carol Melstad the daughter of Darcy and Laura (Howland) Melstad, was born on February 4, 1940 in Huron, SD. She attended schools, and graduated from De Smet High School in 1958. On July 24, 1960 Carol married Jerry Galliger, her soulmate, best friend, fishing partner, and her ever constant companion, at the UCC Congregational Church in De Smet, SD. Carol graduated from Northwestern College of Commerce in Huron, SD, and worked at Northwestern Public Service until she began raising her family. She also worked at the the Grandstand Ticket Office at the South Dakota State Fair, McDonalds, and as a lunchroom monitor for the Huron Middle School, until her health forced her to retire.

Carol was confirmed in the First Congregational Church, De Smet, SD on April 17, 1955.Carol was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Huron, serving as deacon and Youth Club director.  She enjoyed fishing, camping, dining out, and spending time with her family and friends.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Jerry, Huron, SD; son, Steven (Rhonda) Galliger, Hartford, SD; 3 daughters, Tana Hagel, Hartford, SD, Jeannette (Tod) Naser, Mitchell, SD, and Susan Galliger, Huron, SD; 6 grandchildren: Michael and Samantha Galliger, Derek and Andrew Naser, and Christopher and Ashley Hagel; 1 step-grandchild, Brady Pinney; her brother, Larry (Nancy) Melstad, Huron, SD; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Cam and Melba Galliger, Huron; and many nieces and nephews.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents.
