Obituary

Carl Henry Beckman, age 67, of Cottage Grove, MN, formerly of Huron, died on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at his home in Cottage Grove, MN.

His Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 30, 2009 at the American Lutheran Church, with entombment in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery Mausoleum, and Military Rites by the Huron Veterans Council.

Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Thursday, October 29, at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron, with the family present from 5-7 p.m.; or one hour prior to the service at the Church on Friday.

Carl H. Beckman, the son of George H. and Hazel (Moeller) Beckman, was born on May 3, 1942 in Milbank, SD. He attended schools in the Cavour area, and graduated from Huron High School in1960. Carl served his country in the U.S. Army from 1965-1967, and was honorably discharged. Carl married Gail Schuman on November 24, 1963 in Huron, SD. Carl worked for the Bureau of Reclamation, performing surveys, soil testing, and designing roads, before finally becoming the chief of the Computer Department. He retired in 1995.

Carl was a member of the American Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and remodeling homes.

Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife, Gail of Cottage Grove, MN; daughter Christine (Joseph) Otte, of Woodbury, MN; his two grandchilden, Lauren and Lindsay Otte; brother, Lloyd (Jeri) Beckman of Frazee, MN; five sisters, Jean Hart, Ethel Nelson, Lois (Norman) Ferguson, all of Huron, SD, Marlene (Harold) Forbes of Mobridge, SD and Carol (Gene) Baum of Peoria, AZ; brother-in-law, Jerry (Patti) Schuman, of Cambridge, MN; sister-in-law, Pamela (John R.) Boomsma, of Hitchcock, SD; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Richard; and two brothers-in-law, Clarence Nelson and Kenneth Hart.
