Burton Bruha, 95, of Huron, passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at SunQuest Healthcare Center.
His funeral service will be at 11 am on Monday, December 12, at American Lutheran Church in Huron with military honors by the Huron Veteran's Council. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers a memorial to Paralyzed Veterans of America.
Visitation with the family present, will be from 2-4 pm, Sunday, December 11 at Welter Funeral Home; or visitation one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
Burton was born August 18, 1921 to John and Alice (Mlejnek) Bruha at Vienna, SD. He was raised in the Vienna area, attending school there. Burton entered the U.S. Army in September 1942 and served in World War II. He was discharged from the Army February 14, 1946 and returned to South Dakota.
Burton married Doris on August 29, 1946 at Webster, SD. They later they moved to Huron, where Burton spent many years working at Armour's Packing Plant.
Burton enjoyed bowling, golfing and hunting. Bowling was his most loved hobby, participating in many state and national tournaments over many years. He bowled until 90 years of age, having bowled his only perfect game on his 80th birthday. He enjoyed bowling so much, that after retiring from Armour's, he spent many more years working at the Plain's Bowling alley.
Burton is survived by his children, Holly (Bob) Raschke, Arvada, CO, Richard (Karen) Bruha, FL, Bette (Tony) Rangel, Miller; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-granchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris; and sister, Eleanor Klungseth.
