Obituary

Bruce Craig Dietz, 62, Sioux Falls, SD died April 25, 2016 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.

A celebration of Bruce's life will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, April 30 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron.

He was born in Huron, South Dakota on October 24, 1953 to Robert and Darlene (Adebar) Dietz. His early life was in Huron and Hitchcock, graduating from Hitchcock High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed at the Great Lakes Naval Station in Chicago, Illinois.

Most of his adult life was spent in Sioux Falls and the surrounding area. Bruce was a kind and gentle man and for over 20 years volunteered at the Sioux Falls Veterans Hospital. Several times he was recognized at their volunteer awards ceremonies with plaques for his many hours of service. His last recognition was for over 10,000 volunteer hours.

Bruce believed in connecting with people and stayed in touch with his siblings, who lived in other areas of the country, with faithful weekly phone calls to each of them. He was a regular at 5th Street Connection in Sioux Falls and was described by the staff there as "known by everyone and a favorite."

He is survived by sister; Debbie (Rick) Gettman; three brother's, Bob Dietz, Mitch (DeLynn) Dietz, and Gene (Wrenetta) Dietz; one niece; four nephews; and his many friends at 5th Street Connection and throughout Sioux Falls.

Bruce was preceded in death by brother, Randy; and his parents.
