Neuharth
September 22, 1958 – May 30, 2026
Brian Neuharth, age 67, of Wolsey, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2026 at his home under hospice care. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, June 5, 2026 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wolsey with burial at 1:30 p.m. at St. Martin Cemetery in Huron. Visitation, with his family present, will be from 5-7 p.m., on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wolsey; or one hour prior to the service on Friday morning at the church.
Brian Earl Neuharth was born on September 22, 1958, to parents Norman and Connie (Johnson) Neuharth in Huron, SD. He spent most of his childhood growing up on a farm outside of Wolsey, SD and graduated from Wolsey High School in 1976.
Brian married Cindy (Wharton) on April 21st, 1979, in Huron, SD at St. Martin’s Catholic Church. They had just recently celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary.
Throughout his cherished life, Brian took on many different roles. Growing up on a dairy farm, he worked hard and contributed any way he could. After graduating from Wolsey High School in 1976, Brian spent a few years working different jobs before settling down more permanently to work as a machinist for Telelect/Terex, spending time at both Huron and Watertown locations. In 1985, Brian and Cindy moved to their farm west of Wolsey, living there for 40 years. In 1997, Brian opened NeuTech Machine and Weld in Wolsey and eventually moved to farming full-time in 2010.
Brian’s happiest moments were often with Cindy at his side. Whether it was a fishing rod in hand, in a hunting blind at sunrise, or gathered around a campfire with family and friends, he enjoyed many different hobbies. The countless camping trips, hunting adventures, and days spent on the water created memories that will live on for generations. He devoted a lot of his time to his community, neighbors and friends. Brian spent years as a volunteer firefighter and EMT, serving the Wolsey area, and was always willing and able to help assist friends, family, and neighbors with anything they needed.
Cherishing and celebrating Brian’s life are his wife Cindy Neuharth, of Wolsey; children, Nikki Steilen of Huron, Brad (Julie) Neuharth of Sioux Falls, Nathan (Heather) Neuharth of Wolsey; grandkids, Isaac and Jered, Autumn, Barrett and Wyatt, Roman, Cecilia, and Oakley; his parents, Norman and Connie Neuharth of Wolsey; brothers, Russ Neuharth and Terry (Deanna) Neuharth of Colorado Springs. He is also survived by a large and cherished extended family, including numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear relatives.
Brian was preceded in death by his sister, Julie Jacobs, and his parents-in-law, William and Lorraine Wharton.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
