Brenda Schoenfelder, age 62, of Huron, passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at her home in Huron, surrounded by her family. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, February 13, 2026 at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Huron with burial at St. Paul’s Cemetery in Iroquois. Memorial visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at Welter Funeral Home. A scripture service and time of sharing will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday evening at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, Brenda’s family prefers memorials. To honor Brenda, the family asks for those attending her services to wear purple for pancreatic cancer awareness.
Brenda was born on February 12, 1963, to parents Merle and Wanda (Longland) Rohde in Webster, South Dakota. She attended school in Bristol, graduating in 1981.
Brenda married James Schoenfelder in Watertown, South Dakota on May 10, 1985. Brenda’s greatest joy was being with her children and grandchildren, and spending time alongside her husband. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and coloring. Those who knew Brenda will remember her radiant smile and her courageous, positive attitude, which she carried with her through every season of life.
She is survived by her husband, James of Huron; her children, Seth Schoenfelder of Clark, Jesse Schoenfelder of Brookings, Leslie (William) Gray of Huron, Robert (Caitlin) Schoenfelder of Iroquois, Jacob Schoenfelder of Grand Rapids, MI, and Rachel Schoenfelder of Bloomington, MN; her twelve grandchildren, Deja Phillips, Gabrielle McQuirk, Jayden Schoenfelder, Aaliyah Gray, Candace Gray, Nathanial Gray, Alaina Schoenfelder, Scarlett Schoenfelder, Luna Gray, Teagan Gray, Vincent Schoenfelder, Brooklyn Gray; and great-grandchildren, Liam Allen; her siblings, Marvin (Debbie) Rohde of Mona, IA, Mary (Tom) Olson of Langford, SD, Roger Rohde of Aberdeen and Karla Roth of Pierre; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Mary (Charlie) Unterbrunner of Artesian, Janeen (Wade) Kouf of Huron, Don (Jeannine) Schoenfelder of Huron, Peggy (Paul) Jungers of Watertown, Cecile (Jeff) Zwanziger of Huron, Tom (Amy) Schoenfelder of Cavour, John (Michelle) Schoenfelder of Iroquois, and Julie Schoenfelder of Alexandria, SD; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Rebecca Jean Schoenfelder, her mother Wanda Roth, her father Merle Rohde, her stepfather Gene Roth, her grandparents James and Ellen Longland, and her parents-in-law Lester and Dorothy Schoenfelder.
