Beverly L. Mueller, age 85, of Huron, formerly of rural Hitchcock, passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2015, at SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron. Her funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 21, 2015, at Congregational United Church of Christ in Huron with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be from 4-6 p.m. Friday, November 20, 2015 at Welter Funeral Home; or one hour prior to service at the church.
Beverly Lorraine Jones was born on October 18, 1930 in Ipswich, SD, the daughter of Thomas and Elnora (Ruenzel) Jones. She attended school in Ipswich and later in Huron, graduating from Huron High School in 1948. She was united in marriage to Harold "Chuck" Mueller on October 22, 1950. Their first home was on a farm near Java, SD. In March of 1957 they moved to Hitchcock, where they raised their three children, Kandice, Tom, and Scott.
Bev loved to bake and was well known for making the best kuchen. She also loved gardening, cooking, dancing, and canning. She and Chuck loved attending their grandchildren and great-grandchildren's events. Bev and Chuck were winter Texans (Snowbirds), making their home in Weslaco, TX during the winter months. They loved spending time with all of their friends they made, having social get togethers and never missing a dance. After Chuck passed away in 2010, Bev continued to go south for the next three years. In May of 2013 she went to live at Stoneybrook Suites. In April of 2014, after her health started to decline, she entered SunQuest Healthcare Center.
Bev was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ, the 1013 Extension Club, and Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. She worked on the local, state and federal election boards for many years. She and Chuck worked together at the South Dakota State Fair, being in charge of the Grandstand ticket taking.
Bev is survived by her daughter, Kandice (Rick) Boomsma of Hitchcock; one son; Scott (Kelly Halperin) Mueller of Hitchcock; seven grandchildren, Jennifer (Joel Kelsey) Boomsma, Jeff (Tracy) Boomsma, Tim Boomsma, Jessica (Kasey) Kirkham, Jacque Mueller, Janelle (Scotty Cunningham) Mueller, and Leslie (Brian) Newquist- Peterson; seven great-grandchildren, Alex Styer, Ashley Styer, Taylor Knippling, Boston Knippling, Jack Boomsma, Julian Peterson, and Kolby Kirkham; one sister, Della Larson; one brother, Curt (Myrna) Jones; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Jones and Anne Witlock; brother-in-law, Ervin (Priscilla) Mueller; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; son, Tom Mueller; three sisters, Sarah (Harold) Krueger, Doris (Pete) Peterson and Phyllis (Lee) Bell; three brothers, Edwin Jones, Lester Jones, and George Jones.
