Beverly Hansen, age 79, of Huron, SD, died Wednesday, August 29, 2012, at her home. Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 4, 2012, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be Monday from 6-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.; or Tuesday morning one hour prior to the service at the church. Beverly Hansen was born Beverly Jean Van Der Aarde, daughter of Russell and Lucille (Paulson) Van Der Aarde, on April 6, 1933, in Mitchell, SD. At the time of her birth the family was living at rural Letcher, SD. She graduated from Woonsocket High School, then attended and graduated from secretarial school at Northwest College of Commerce in Huron. On September 10, 1950, Beverly married William Hansen, Jr., in Woonsocket. They lived on a farm near Alpena until 2004 when Bev and Bill moved to Huron. Bev worked as a clerk for Sandvigs, then Randalls, and was a school secretary at Alpena School for 29 years. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Sunday school teacher, Bible Class, ACTS Club, PTA and past president, extensions clubs, and International Diners Club. She enjoyed boating, playing cards, traveling, and following Alpena school sports and the sports/activities of her grandchildren. Bev is survived by her husband, Bill of Huron; 2 daughters, Roxann (Merle) Veenhof of Huron, and Miki (Ron) Wilde of Helena, MT; 6 grandchildren, Geoff Veenhof, Casey (Amy) Veenhof, Molly (Matt) Gates, Zach Veenhof, Jarrod (Jessie) Wilde, and Traci (Brian) Dundas; 11 great grandchildren (2 will be born within the next few months; 2 sisters, Sharron (LeRoy) Hansen of Huron, and Linda Steffensen of Tacoma, WA; brother-in-law, Duane (MaryAnn) Hansen; and 3 sisters-in-law, Shirley (Marvin) Knutson, Jan (Ken) Huber, and Darlene Hansen. She was preceded in death by her parents; 1 brother, Jerry Van Der Aarde; 2 brothers-in-law, John Hansen, and Jack Steffensen; and 3 sisters-in-law, Norma Spelbring, Michiko Van Der Aarde, and Delores Moilan.
