Beulah O. Mundt, age 91, of 2158 Fulton St, Sturgis, SD, formerly of Huron, died on Sunday, May 10, 2009 at the Sturgis Regional Medical Center, Sturgis, SD.
Her funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 22, 2009 at American Lutheran Church in Huron with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Huron.
Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron, with the family present from 6-8 p.m., Thursday night; or one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
Beulah O. Olson, the daughter of Bernard and Ada (Kittleson) Olson was born on February 2, 1918 on the family farm near, Virgil, SD. She was baptized in the rural Earlville Lutheran Church in Beadle County, north of Wessington Springs, SD. Beulah graduated from Wessington Springs High School in 1937.
Beulah married Paul (Buddie) Mundt on March 21, 1942 at the American Lutheran Church in Huron, SD. In July of that same year, Paul enlisted in the Navy. Beulah was with him during his time stationed at Pennsacola, FL and Jacksonville, FL. Beulah worked in the Navy Base Administrative Office from October 1942 to 1945, and then at the Assembly Repair Office in Jacksonville until the end of World War II in August 1945. After the war they lived in Oelwein, IA, until moving back to Huron in the summer of 1947.
Beulah was a stay at home mom for several years. She then worked at the Beadle County ACSC (farm program) Office from 1958 -1967, and in the business office of the Huron Public School from 1968 until her retirement in 1980.
Beulah was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Huron for many years. She was also a member of the Senior Center, and a former member of the Moose Lodge. Beulah and Buddy traveled to many of the states as well as Oslo, Norway, home of Beulahs grandparents. They also spent much of their retirement visiting their 3 daughters, and playing bingo and cards.
Grateful for having shared her life are her three daughters, Pamela (Rick) Gorman, Sturgis, SD, Paula (Richard) Tresslar, New River, AZ, and Becky (Kim) Eining of Channahon, IL; 5 grandchildren, Jeff (Sandy) Norris, Rapid City, SD, Corey (Trina) Norris, Sturgis, SD, and Kimberly, Ashley and Colton Eining Channahon, IL; 6 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Gene, and Allen (Bety) Olson; sister Donna (Kenny) Johnson, Tuscon, AZ; and many nieces and nephews.
Beulah was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Ada; step-mother,Veulah Olson; her husband Paul in 2005; a granddaughter, Tanya Norris; son-in-law, Allen Smokey Norris; 2 sisters, Bernice and Gladys; and five brothers: Ellsworth, Harley, Adrian, Arthur, and Vern, Olson.
