Betty Waters, age 66, of rural Wessington, died Saturday, June 30, 2007 at the Huron Regional Medical Center after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Her funeral service will be at 1:30 PM Tuesday, July 3rd at the First Presbyterian Church in Wessington with Rev. Allen Sager officiating. Burial will be at the Wessington Cemetery. Friends may call Monday afternoon and evening or Tuesday morning at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Tuesday afternoon. There will be a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM Monday at the funeral home. Betty Waters was born Betty Gaudig on September 13, 1940, to Lester and Eleanor (Almond) Gaudig in Hand County. She attended country school and Miller High School. On October 30, 1956, Betty married Lowell Waters at Miller. They have lived and farmed in rural Wessington since that time. Betty was employed at the R & B Food Center for several years. She was very active in her children and grandchildrens lives and attended their activities. She loved to cook, sew, garden, card writing to include birthdays and holidays and loved her cats and dogs. They celebrated their golden anniversary in October, 2006. She is survived by her husband Lowell of rural Wessington, 5 children, Mike (Karie) Waters of Wessington, Peggy (Bryan) Kroeplin of Highmore, Terry (Missy) Waters of Huron, Sheila (Jarod Treib) Waters of Letcher and Connie (Luke) Howder of Webster; 8 grandchildren, Shawn, Weston, Matt, Kody, Katie, Mariah, Tanner and Jaron; 1 brother, Leslie (Tootie) Gaudig of Tea; 2 sisters Verna Rae (Jerry) Westby of Binford, ND and Barbara (Kenny) Dugan of Crescent Valley, NV; many nieces and nephews; and Freckles, her Jack Russell terrier. She was preceded in death by her parents and her nephew Chad Gaudig.
