Obituary

Betty Schroeder, age 76, of Huron died on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at the Golden Living Center in Redfield. Her funeral will be 11:00 am Thursday, October 8, 2015 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Huron with burial in Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be from 5-7 pm Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at Welter Funeral Home; or one hour prior to the service at the church. Betty Jean was born on January 4, 1939, to Lee and Beulah (Schaffer) Smith in Huron, South Dakota. On October 29, 1961, Betty married her long time love Raymond George Schroeder. They made their home on the family farm southwest of Huron. Betty and her husband Ray were the parents of Janet Rae and Todd Edward and opened their home to many foster children throughout the years. Betty and her husband were proud members of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. They were also members of the American Legion and DAV, and sold milk to Land O' Lakes for 18 years. After Ray's death on December 22, 1992, Betty remained on the family farm until 2005 when she moved to Huron because of health problems. Betty was an amazing and very talented woman. She had many hobbies including baking, canning, and cooking. Betty was an avid quilter and sewer and made many quilts and blankets for friends, family and charitable causes. She enjoyed following her kids' and grandkids' sports and enjoyed bowling. She is survived by her daughter, Janet (Leroy) Ronan of Frankfort, SD, son Todd Schroeder of Huron, SD; her grandchildren, Jessica (Philip) Black, Brittanyn (CJ) Amaya, Brandon Wollman, and Jake Schroeder; 2 step-grandchildren, Paul and Brittany Busch; 2 great-grandchildren, October and Tatym Black; 2 step great-grandchildren, Gabe and Liliy; Brother Bob (Yvonne) Smith; and sister Karen (Bob) Anderson. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ray in 1992, sister Bonnie Wipf and her significant other, Leroy Halter, sisters- in- law Doris Schroeder, and Marie Berquist; and brothers-in-law Dale Wipf, Herman Schroeder, and Basil Berquist.
