Betty J. Nelson, age 89, of Huron, died Saturday, May 16, 2015 at the Huron Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service will be at 10:30am on Friday, May 22, 2015 at the First Baptist Church in Huron with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 5 until 7 pm on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at the Welter Funeral Home; or one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be directed to the First Baptist Church of Huron. Betty Fulmer was born on January 26, 1926 to Frank and Levona Fulmer in Murphysboro, IL where she grew up and received her education. She worked for Bell Telephone as an operator in Murphysboro and in St. Louis, MO. Betty married Alvin Nelson on May 6, 1946 and moved back to his home in Gann Valley, SD. In 1950 Alvin's job for the Department of Agriculture brought them to Huron, SD. Betty was a member of the First Baptist Church of Huron. She was a homemaker of excellence and raised four children. Betty enjoyed sewing, travel, pets and sitting on her patio. Survived by her children: Larry (Mary) Nelson of Novi, MI; Jim (Karen) Nelson of Moline, IL; Beverly (Paul) Coniaris of Minnetonka, MN; Dan (Dee) Nelson of Pierre, SD and foster son Greg Gilbert will miss her greatly. Betty was blessed with 9 grandchildren: Jason Nelson, Jennifer Reckward, Zachary Nelson, Angela Mucke, Tony Coniaris, Amy Hoeft, Ted Coniairs, Sierra Nelson, Bailey Nelson and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Alvin, parents and brothers, Karl and Frank.
