Betty L. (Collins) McClanahan, 84, Huron, SD died Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at Violet Tschetter memorial Home in Huron.
Her memorial service will be at 10:30 am, Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron.
She was born Betty Lou Bowder to Joe and Bessie (Miller) Bowder, December 23, 1931 in Huron, SD.
Betty married Grant H. Collins January 4, 1948. They raised four sons on farms near Cavour, Alpena and Virgil, where they lived until his death in 1994.
She was an active member of Virgil United Methodist Church, where she played the organ. Betty served as the postmaster at the Virgil Post Office.
She loved being outdoors, listening to music as well as playing the organ or piano. She enjoyed teaching and painting ceramics, cake decorating and being with family and friends.
September 1995 she married Roger McClanahan. They lived on a farm near Virgil until ill health brought them to the home in Huron. He died in 2014.
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law; Mary (Lyle D) Collins, Forestburg, Clifford (Anita) Collins, Sweden, Gary Collins, Tennessee and Joe (Cindy) Collins, Lake Preston; eight grandchildren; Robin (Dan) Hunter, Cory (Dee) Collins, both of Forestburg, Angela Quiram, AZ, Joey (Darla) Collins, DeSmet, Sarah (Richard) Dozark, Mitchell, Matt (Liz) Collins, Aberdeen, Emma Collins and Sara Collins, both of Sweden; three sisters, Joann Bloodgood, Huron, Cora Lee, MN, and Mollie, MN; along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by both husbands; and one son, Lyle D. Collins.
