Betty Lou Marone was born on September 25, 1931 to Richard and Clara (VanMoorlehem) Marone in Beadle County, South Dakota. She attended Miner Rural Elementary south of Cavour for grades 1 to 8 and then attended Huron High School, graduating in 1951.
Betty married Donald N. Olson on June 12, 1951 in Huron. Betty was a farmwife, raising her children on the family farm. Betty loved living on the farm and remained on the farm as long as her health allowed. She did enjoy being a substitute school bus driver from 1978-1987.
Betty enjoyed reading, crafts, and knitting. She also loved camping and gardening. She loved animals as well. She was a member of Farm Bureau, 4-H, Grange, Beadle County Extension Club, Fairfield Ladies Aid, and First Baptist Church. Betty was known for her wedding cake decorating and as the Caramel Lady. Betty and Don spent many nights ballroom and square dancing. Don and Betty hosted several foreign exchange students and, in their retirement, they were able to visit some of them in Europe.
Betty is survived by her children Cherry (Willis) Hunter of Sioux Falls, Dawn (John) Coughlin of Huron, Kirk Olson of Huron, and Carol (Don) Vancura of Barnesville, MN. Eight grandchildren Matthew (Angela) Hunter, Michael (Cassy) Hunter, Marcus (Johanna) Hunter, Christopher Coughlin, Amanda (Josh) Haeder, Addrienne Vancura, Holly Vancura, and Eric Vancura. Ten great-grandchildren Cala, Jakeb, Ella, and Landan Hunter, Devin and Mason Hunter, Sawyer and Hanna Hunter, and Maggie and Laikyn Haeder.
Her brother and sisters Jackie (Raymond) Kuhl, Marilyn Tounsley, and Ronald (Lorraine) Marone. Betty is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 2006, her daughter Connie May on May 15, 1954 and two brothers Russell and George Marone as well as brother-in-law Jack Tounsley.
