Betty Lou Hufford, age 74, of Porterville, CA, formerly of Huron, died Thursday, March 11, 2010, in California.
Her funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday March 19, at Calvary Baptist Church in Huron with burial in Riverside Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m Thursday March 18, at Welter Funeral Home with family present; or one hour prior to service at the church on Friday.
Betty Lou Hufford was born June 2, 1935, in Huron to Ward and Leona (Ayres) Houseman. Betty attended Augustana Academy in Canton and Huron High School graduating in 1953. Betty lived in the Huron area most of her life. She also lived near Ashton and in Aberdeen in the 1960s.
She married Paul E. Younkin on July 21, 1954; John Everitt Osman on October 10, 1963; and Bert Hufford Sr. on February 21, 1980.
Betty worked as a nurses aide, cook, dishwasher, several years at the state fair, and Home Health Services. She volunteered at the Salvation Army, was active in her church Calvary Baptist. She was a longtime member of the Moose Lodge, and VFW Forrest McMullen Post #1776, holding offices in each organization. Betty moved to Porterville, CA, in August of 2009 to live with her daughter.
Betty liked to walk and ride bike, do crosswords and sudoku, jigsaw puzzles, read her Bible, crocheted many blankets for her kids and grandkids, plastic canvas crafts, hold babies, and conversing with her family through email. Betty always had a smile and was willing to help out. Her favorite phrase was (Let's go), especially after her two knee replacements.
Betty is survived by her son, Schuyler Osman of Sioux Falls; her daughters, Lucy (Eugene) Burdick of Redfield, Marcy (Scott) Tuttle of Porterville, CA, Virginia (Kirk) Hvam of Aberdeen, and Nikole (Tom) Jenks of Huron; 15 grandchildren; one great-grandson; sister, Judy Brown of Eufala, OK; and an aunt, Lorraine Oleson of Palisade, MN.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her three husbands; an infant son; and a brother-in-law.
