Betty M. French, age 82, of Wessington, SD, formerly of Huron, passed away on December 18, 2013, in Huron, SD. Her Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 21, 2013, at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron with burial at the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation, with the family present,will be one hour prior to the service at the Welter Funeral Home. Betty M. Harrell, the daughter of Earl and Ella (Cummings) Harrell, was born on January 1, 1931, in Huron, SD. She attended school in Huron. Betty managed the Salvation Army Thrift Shop in Huron for many years before retiring in 1991. Betty lived in Huron for many years until moving to Wessington, SD, in 1994. Betty married Orville French on October 17, 1953, in Huron, SD. Betty was a member of the Salvation Army in Huron and the Salvation Army Home League. She always enjoyed attending their church services. Betty was also a member of the VFW Women's Auxiliary and the Wessington, SD Senior Citizen's Center. Betty enjoyed fishing, her cats, and coming to town on the weekends for breakfast. Grateful for having shared in Betty's life are her longtime companion, Robert Stanfield; Bob's children: Barbara (John) Pollock, of Clark, SD, Bonnie (Steve) Mees of Huron, SD, and Becky (Butch) Downey of Cavour, SD and their children; brother-in-law, Richard Gascoigne; and several nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Orville French in 1981; six sisters, Helen Schroeder, Mary Schroeder, Marian Cullens, Mae Hebron, Genevieve Harrell as a child, and Ruth Gascoigne; and one brother, Frankie Harrell.
