Betty Drake, age 80, of 1251 Arizona Ave. SW, Huron, died Wednesday, August 1, 2007, at the Huron Nursing Home. Her memorial service will be at 11:00 AM Monday, August 6, at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Kevin Channell officiating. A private burial service will be held at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 9:00 PM Sunday at the Welter Funeral Home with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church, William Reaves American Legion Post #7 Auxiliary, Forrest McMullen VFW Post #1776 Auxiliary, or 8 et 40. Betty Drake was born Betty Jean Fritz on August 20, 1926, to William and Lydia (Pfiefle) Fritz at Sheridan, WY. As a child she moved with her family to Bismarck, ND, where she attended school and graduated from Bismarck High School in 1944. On April 21, 1945, Betty married Eugene Gene Drake at Tacoma, WA. They lived for a time in So. St. Paul, MN, prior to moving to Huron in 1957. Betty was a homemaker and also worked for a period of time at the American Legion Hall and at Lorens Lounge. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, William Reaves American Legion Post #7 Auxiliary, Forrest McMullen VFW Post #1776 Auxiliary, and 8 et 40. Her many interests included playing bridge, bowling, traveling, and visiting her children and grandchildren. Betty is survived by 3 children, Karen (Richard) Herman of Rockford, IL, James (Jean) Drake of Winner, SD, and Gene (Lori) Drake of Owatonna, MN; 8 grandchildren, Tracy (John) Ferraro, Jay (Jamie) Drake, Dan Drake, Becky (Kurt) Peppel, Niki (Derek) Johnson, Lindsey Drake, Stephanie Drake, and Joe Drake; 4 great grandchildren, Joe Ferraro, Libby Ferraro, Jaymes Drake, and Nora Johnson; 1 sister, Helen Wetzel of San Diego, CA; 1 brother, William (Donna) Fritz of Bismarck, ND; 2 sisters-in-law, Bernadine Watson of So. St. Paul, MN, and Bette Fritz of Grand Forks, ND; special friends, Connie Holloway of Huron, and Edna Meyer of Huron; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother; her husband, Gene on July 22, 1984; and 1 brother, John Fritz; 1 brother-in-law, Frank Watson.
