Bertram Victor Jungemann 'Bert', was born October 19, 1923, the eldest son of Erich and Mayme (Fischer) Jungemann of Wolsey.

He graduated from Wolsey High School in 1941 and attended Huron College.      Early during World War II, Bert enlisted in the Army Air Corp as an Army Aviation Cadet. He attended pilot training in California and upon successful completion was commissioned a second Lieutenant and became a Primary Flight Instructor.  Bert transitioned after the war to the United States Air Force and rose to the rank of Lt. Colonel with thirty years of service all over the world.

While he was station in the Puerto Rico, he met his wife Anita Pearl Killam and they were married on December 31, 1948.

In 1955, Bert earned his Master's Degree from Ohio State University and attended the Tyndall Flight School and then graduated from the Advanced Fighter Pilot school at Tyndall AFB, Florida. During his time in the Airforce, Bert served at the U.S Embassies in London, Great Britain, and Greece.  He was a USAF Command pilot with service in three wars.  His decorations included the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, the Air Force Commendation Medal and the Air Medal. His flying experience ranged from training in biplanes to finishing his service in high performance jet fighters.  He flew throughout his thirty years in the Air Force.   Upon retirement he returned to live in the Huron area with his family, where he was active in the Huron VFW.  He later relocated to Las Cruces, NM.

Bert was an avid radio controlled model builder and a sailor.  He spent numerous years sailing with his Catalina 22 at the Rio Grande Yacht Club on Elephant Butte Lake.  He sailed with his son Eric in the San Francisco Bay Area and also completed a double-handed voyage with Eric from Hawaii to San Francisco at age 73 in a 30 ft. ocean racing sailboat.  Although he had many ocean crossings in the air as a pilot, this was his first ocean crossing in a sailboat.  Bert was very active in the Mission Lutheran Church in Las Cruces.

Bert thoroughly enjoyed returning to his Wolsey roots for many fall hunting trips, and visiting close friends and relatives.

In addition to his wife Anita, Bert is survived by his children, Eric, John, David, Peter, Nita, and Janet Leigh.  5 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, his brother Herbert and his sister Genevieve, and her husband Edward Kahre.  He is survived by his siblings, Quin (Joyce) of Florida, Luther (Joyce) of Arizona, Gloria (Jerrald) Zupfer of New Jersey and his sister in law, Verla Jungemann of Nebraska.

Memorials may be made in Bert's name to the Mission Lutheran Church of Las Cruces, NM.
