Bertha Uttecht-Langbehn, age 86, of 1345 Michigan Ave. SW, Huron, and formerly of the Alpena area, died Wednesday, November 2, 2005, at the Huron Nursing Home. Her funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Monday, November 7, at the United Parish of Alpena with Pastor Sarah Herman officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00 to 9:00 PM Sunday at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Monday morning. The family will be present from 7:00 to 8:00 PM Sunday evening at the funeral home with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Bertha Uttecht-Langbehn was born Bertha Fastnacht on April 20, 1919, to Carl and Elisabeth (Huether) Fastnacht at Forsythe, MT. In 1920, she moved with her family to Hand County where she grew up and received her education. On May 1, 1938, Bertha married Carl Uttecht at the Ebenezer Church in Hand County, rural Wessington Springs. They lived on a farm northwest of Wessington Springs for 3 years. In 1941, they moved to a farm south of Alpena. In 1945, they moved 5 miles northeast of Alpena to a farm which they operated for many years, then purchased the farm in 1966. Carl died on May 18, 1981. On November 25, 1982, Bertha married Alfred Langbehn at Wolsey. The couple made their home on a farm north of Wolsey. Alfred died on May 27, 1989. She later moved to a home in Alpena. She was a member of the United Parish of Alpena, UMW Progressive Club, American Legion Post #116 Auxiliary of Alpena, and the Senior Citizens Center of Wolsey. Her many interests included reading, embroidery, yard work, and playing cards. She loved to travel, and in addition to visiting foreign lands, she had been in all 50 states of the union. On June 1, 2004, she became a resident of the Huron Nursing Home; in November she moved to StoneyBrook Suites for 1 month, then returned to the Huron Nursing Home in December. She is survived by 3 daughters, Glenda (Ivan) Teveldal of Tulare, SD, Karen (Lawrence) Kopfmann of Alpena, SD, and Dianna (Darrell) Neuharth of Alpena, SD; 1 son, Ron (Carol Ann) Uttecht of Woonsocket, SD; 1 step-son, Kurt (Vicky) Langbehn of Fergus Falls, MN; 11 grandchildren, Craig Teveldal, Dawn (Randy) Woodward, Becky (Bill) Rernleitner, Shelly (Tony) Binger, David (Angie) Uttecht, Darrin (Tangela) Uttecht, Rodney (Michelle) Kopfmann, Randy Kopfmann, Richard (Penny) Kopfmann, Stephanie (Jason) Winter, and Eric (Stacey) Neuharth; 24 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Emma Meyer of Huron, SD, and Carrie Winter of Wessington Springs, SD, and 2 sisters-in-law, Faye Fastnacht of Wessington Springs, SD, and Catherine Fastnacht of Miller, SD. She was preceded in death by her parents; both of her husbands, Carl Uttecht on May 18, 1981, and Alfred Langbehn on May 27, 1989; 1 great granddaughter; 3 brothers, Nordal Fastnacht, Edward Fastnacht, and Elvin Fastnacht; 3 sisters, Margaret Dobler, Lydia Neuharth, and Pauline Moser; 1 sister-in-law, Solita Fastnacht; 5 brothers-in-law, Dr. John Dobler, Gus Neuharth, Henry Moser, Hubert Meyer, and Julius Winter.
