Bertha Bittner, age 87, of Huron, SD, died Monday, January 23, 2012, at SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron. Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 27, at Congregational United Church of Christ in Huron with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home; or Friday morning one hour prior to the service at the church. Bertha Bittner was born Bertha M. Diede, daughter of Christian and Lydia (Huber) Diede, on January 21, 1925, at Alpena, SD. She attended country school near Alpena where she completed her formal education. On March 18, 1944, Bertha married Erven Bittner in Huron. Bertha worked for many years at Huron Cleaners. She also cleaned people's homes in the area for many years. Erven died on June 17, 1983. On July 8, 1993, Bertha married Elmer Kludt in Wessington Springs. Elmer died on June 16, 2007. She was a member of Congregational United Church of Christ; and the American Legion William Reaves Post #7 Auxiliary. Her many interests included crocheting, sewing, embroidery, watching television, and most of all spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her 2 children, Mary Pearson of Huron, and Darrell (Barb) Bittner of Loveland, CO; daughter-in-law, Dina "Tina" Bittner of Everett, WA; 5 grandchildren, Chad (Kelly) Bittner of Henderson, NV, Todd Bittner of North Charleston, SC, Angela (Todd) Brueske of Woonsocket, Diana (Jeff) Gross of Kersey, CO, and Brett (Tina) Pearson of Huron; 8 great grandchildren, Boston Pearson, Kaitlin Brueske, Tyler Brueske, Samuel Bittner, Katherine Bittner, Benjamin Bittner, Maxwell Bittner, and Adam Gross; 2 brothers, John (Julia) Diede of Redfield, and Jake (Arlene) Diede of Everett, WA; 2 sisters, Carol North of Huron, and Martha (Dick) Lambert of Alpena; 1 sister-in-law, Delores Diede of Marysville, WA; 1 brother-in-law, Herman "Butch" Voss of Huron; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her 2 husbands, Erven Bittner on June 17, 1983, and Elmer Kludt on June 16, 2007; 1 son, Eugene Bittner on October 20, 2007; 1 son-in-law, Omer Pearson; 5 brothers, Albert Diede, Christian Diede, and 3 in infancy; 3 sisters, Alvina Haugen, Betty French, and Ruby Voss; 1 sister-in-law, Mary Diede; and 3 brothers-in-law, Delbert North, Joe Haugen, and Camden French.
