Obituary

Berta Genzler, age 92, of Tulare, SD, died Saturday, July 31, 2004, at the Huron Regional Medical Center in Huron. Her funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 4, at American Lutheran Church in Huron. Burial will be at the Tulare Cemetery, Tulare, SD. Friends may call Tuesday afternoon and evening and Wednesday morning at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Wednesday afternoon. Memorials may be directed to Ronald McDonald House, Spurs Therapeutic Riding Center at Aberdeen, or Prairie Freedom Center for Independent Living at Sioux Falls. Berta Genzler was born Berta Evelina Eldeen on January 19, 1912, to Charles and Alta (Lanphere) Eldeen at rural Hitchcock, SD, in Spink County. She attended school in the country north of Hitchcock where she grew up. On July 18, 1929, Berta married Alvin Genzler at De Smet. They lived on a farm north of Lake Dudley, and later moved to a farm near Tulare. They moved to Huron in 1962, where Berta managed the Coney Island Caf until her retirement in 1972. In October of 2001, Berta moved to Tulare to live with her daughter-in-law, Ann Genzler. She was a member of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in Huron, and the Huron Area Senior Center. She is survived by 2 daughters, Lillie (Glenn) Ward of Cudahy, WI, and Florence Hink of Raymond, SD; 3 sons, Robert (Joyce) Genzler of Midwest City, OK, Ted Genzler of Chelsea, SD, and Glenn (Shirley) Genzler of Hemet, CA; 1 daughter-in-law, Ann Genzler of Tulare, SD; 37 grandchildren; 95 great grandchildren; 38 great great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Nina Wager of Gettysburg, SD, and Agda Alt of North Liberty, IA; 1 brother, Richard Eldeen of West Lebanon, NH; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alvin on July 4, 1978; 1 son, George Genzler in 1957; 10 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 8 brothers; 1 sister; 2 sons-in-law, Marvin Kohrs, and William Hink; and 1 daughter-in-law, Pam Genzler.
