Bert L. Hufford Sr., age 86, of Huron, died on Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at the Golden Living Center in Redfield, SD.

His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m, Saturday, April 25, 2009, at Welter Funeral Home with burial at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Artesian, SD.

Visitation will be Friday, April 24, from 1 to 8 p.m. at the Funeral home with the family present from 5-7 p.m., and a prayer service to begin at 7:00 p.m.; or one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday.

Bert L. Hufford, the son of George Isaac and Susan Lena (Woods) Hufford, was born on June 8, 1922 in Lead, SD. Bert attended school in Fedora, SD. Bert married Wilma Jean Chambers on January 8, 1956 in Ringwood, OK. Wilma died on May 25, 1998. Bert married Betty Houseman on February 21, 1980 in Mitchell, SD. Bert worked at the Armour Meat Packing Plant in Huron for 26 years.

Bert was a member of the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed bowling, dancing, rollerskating, playing cards, traveling, hunting and fishing, and spending time with his family and friends.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Betty, Huron, SD; his daughter, Linda (Dale) Hillberg, Issaquah, WA; sons Bert Hufford Jr., Cavour, SD, and Charles (Shelly) Hufford, Huron, SD; daughter, Carrie Hufford, Huron, SD; 15 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; brother, Lewis Hufford, Mitchell, SD; and many nieces and nephews.

Bert was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Wilma in 1998; his 2 daughters: Nancy in 1961 in infancy, and Janice in 1994; four brothers: Wesley, Frank, Chester, and Donnie; and a half brother, Dewey Bickford.
