Berniece N. Anderson, age 77, of Hitchcock, died Monday, November 23, 2015 at her son's residence in rural Hitchcock.

Her funeral service will be 2:00 pm on Monday, November 30, 2015 at Welter Funeral Home with burial at Altoona Cemetery in Hitchcock.

Visitation with the family present will be from 5-7pm on Sunday at Welter Funeral Home; or one hour prior to the funeral service on Monday at the funeral home.

Berniece Nadene Lebahn was born on October 3, 1938 to Rudolph and Sophia (Gehm) Lebahn in Winfred, SD where she spent her early childhood. After a tornado hit their farm, the family moved to Lebanon, Oregon where she graduated from Lebanon High School in 1957. While Berniece lived in Lebanon, she worked picking fruit and vegetables for the local cannery.

Berniece moved back to South Dakota to live with her grandfather and uncle in Huron. In 1963, she married Thorvald Anderson of Hitchcock. She helped on the farm taking care of the bottle calves, sheep, and chickens. She was a 4-H leader for many years and was active in the American Legion Auxiliary and Hitchcock Senior Citizens.

Berniece is survived by her son Michael (Mary Odland) Sentell of Hitchcock, SD; 2 grandsons and their families, Richard (Laura) Sentell of Woonsocket, SD and Cody Sentell of Montana; 1 sister, Gloria (Jim) Elliott of Stayton, OR, 1 brother-in-law, Robert Hansen of Alcester, SD; 1 sister-in-law, Herdis Rudd of Rock Valley, IA; many nieces and nephews; and her dog, Spot.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Thorvald Anderson in 2007; 1 son, Larry Anderson in 2015; 1 sister Shirley Hansen; and 1 brother, Raymond Lebahn.
