Barbara Songer, age 74, of Huron, passed away on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at Huron Regional Medical Center in Huron. Her Memorial Service will be at 10:30 AM, Monday, December 27, 2021 at Welter Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Barbara Jean Phillips was born on July 23, 1947 to parents Harry and Vera (Schone) Phillips in Redfield, SD. She grew up in the Redfield area attending school there. Barbara treasured the close bond she shared with her mother. A cherished memory is the fun times she would have with her mother and sisters canning enormous amounts of tomatoes. Barbara credited her Grandma Schone for teaching her to crochet and to cook the good old-fashioned way with her favorites of cinnamon rolls and pulled taffy. As Barbara raised her own family, she was known for being a great cook.

Barbara married Wayne Songer in Huron, South Dakota. Together, they had two children, Lori and Scott.

Barbara's home and family always held special places in her heart. She loved to spend time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She liked arts and crafts, crocheting blankets. She enjoyed cheering for NFL football teams and NASCAR. She liked to listen to country music and loved to attend car races to watch her son race. Playing card games was also a favorite pastime.

She is survived by Wayne Songer of Huron; son, Scott (Danielle) Phillips of Huron, daughter Lori (Jon) Rens of Sioux Falls; 8 grandchildren, John Rens, Lucas (Cierra) Phillips, Chloe Phillips, Kiera Schaefers, Keegan Loewen, Beau and Austin Phillips. Siblings, Virginia (Monte) Steinblock of Huron, Robert Phillips of Sioux City, IA, Connie Johnson of Ames, IA, and Becky (Mark) Berquist of Huron; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers Dallas and Greg Phillips.
