Barbara A. Horsley, age 66, of Wessington Springs, passed away on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at Avera Weskota Hospital in Wessington Springs. Her funeral service will be at 2 PM on Sunday, February 3, 2019 at Foothills Bible Fellowship Church in Wessington Springs, SD. Visitation with the family present will be from 1 PM to the time of service at the church.

Barbara Horsley was born to Raymond and Adele Nissen on June 6, 1952 at Wessington Springs, SD.

While growing up, she and her family lived in Lane and she helped her parents with their grain elevator business. She was proud that she graduated from Lane High School in 1970, which was the last graduating class from Lane. Barb graduated from Black Hills State University in 1976 with an education degree.

On November 29, 1975 she was united in marriage to Lynn Horsley and lived in Black Hawk, SD. They enjoyed touring the Black Hills in their white Datsun pickup. Lynn, Barb, and first daughter Kari moved to Wessington Springs during the summer of 1979. They were surprised with twins, Sarah and Laura, when they arrived in October of 1979.

Barb started her own preschool and taught children at Jellybean Junction. Her creativeness and love for each child provided a foundation so they could grow and discover to start life in the best possible way.

Barb was the fourth librarian at the Wessington Springs Carnegie Library. She retired in January 2017 after 22 years. She was always eager to help someone find the next book and took books to individuals who were unable to visit the library.

Barb showed her children the importance of giving the gift of time to family and friends and would tell her girls that everyone needs a friend.

She is lovingly remembered and will be dearly missed by her husband Lynn, her three daughters, Kari (Carl) Sanders of Oral, SD, Sarah (Charley) Larson of Wessington Springs, and Laura (Frank) Moser of New Prague, MN. Nine grandchildren Megan, Kyle, and Ray Sanders, Blake, Luke, and Chaz Larson, Mitchell, Bryce, and Ryan Moser. Brothers John (Marilyn) Nissen of Woonsocket, David (Neda) Nissen of Sioux Falls, and sister Mary (Neal) Kohatsu of Carmichael, CA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Adele, infant sister Janet Nissen, and father and mother in law, Milton and Nina Horsley.
