Barbara J. Gross, age 88, of 405 21st St. SE, Huron, died Thursday, December 9, 2004, at the Huron Nursing Home. Her funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Monday, December 13, at the First Assembly of God Church with Rev. Tom Brantner and Gary Stahl officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday afternoon and evening or Monday morning at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Monday afternoon. The family will be present from 6:30 to 9:00 PM Sunday evening at the funeral home. The family prefers memorials that will be given to various Missions Ministries. Barbara J. Stahl was born on November 16, 1916, to Paul J. and Anna (Hofer) Stahl on a farm near Yale, SD. She attended rural school through the 8th grade, after which she worked on the farm helping her mother following her fathers death. On April 1, 1934, Barbara was united in marriage to Jake K. Gross at her mothers home. During their married life they lived and farmed on several different locations near the Carpenter and Bancroft areas. She gardened, raised poultry, sold eggs, babysat, and worked at the State Fair to help supplement their income. For several years she worked at the Iroquois Locker Plant cleaning pheasants during hunting season. Following her husbands death on October 20, 1970, Barbara was employed for several years at the Potato Plant at Clark, SD. After moving to Huron in the summer of 1982, she worked as an RSVP volunteer for several years, and also volunteered at the Huron Nursing Home. She also enjoyed attending the Senior Center where she did crafts, handiwork, and helped in the kitchen. Barbara entered the Huron Nursing Home on October 14, 2004. Barbara closely followed the local car-racing program and enjoyed watching NASCAR races on television and cheering for Jeff Gordon. She also was a loyal fan, and loved the music of country music artist, Vince Gill. She is survived by 4 sons, Gene (Kaye) Gross of Huron, Dennis (Janet) Gross of Huron, Gordon (Mary) Gross of Ft. Madison, IA, and Bill (Lynnett) Gross of Huron; 1 daughter, Barbara (Gene) Rosenburger of Mason City, IA; 6 grandchildren, Rodney (Lori) Gross of Wolsey, Lori (Mike) Wallenstein of Huron, Tammy Ransom of Tallahassee, FL, Travis (Teresa) Gross of Cavour, Nichole Minske of Huron, and Misty (Tim) Wardlow of Burlington, IA; 1 step-granddaughter, Heather Skinner of Huron; 13 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; 1 sister, Dorothy (Joe) Glanzer of Willmar, MN; 2 sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jake; 1 grandson, Bradley Rosenburger; 2 brothers, Jake Stahl and Joe Stahl; 3 sisters, Mary Stahl, Agnes Waldner, and Anna Mencke.
