Barbara
Dietz
Aug 7, 1941 — Jul 19, 2026
Huron
Barbara Ann Dietz, 84, of Huron, SD, passed away July 19, 2026 surrounded by family at Huron Regional Medical Center. A private family service will be held at a later date.
Barb was the oldest daughter of Ione and Laurence Friedrichsen born August 7, 1941. She grew up on a farm near Cavour, SD. As a proud country girl, she was active in 4-H, and attended Sheffield Country School, graduated from Huron High School and attended and earned her associate degree in Business from Huron College. She had a 30+ year career dedicated to banking. After retirement, she briefly worked at a lumber yard in Wessington, an aide at Holy Trinity Catholic School, and substitute teaching in the Huron School District.
She enjoyed spending time with family and friends that became family. Barb lived life to the fullest, a kind, fun loving, dedicated worker, and trusted friend who was always up for an adventure. Activities that brought her joy were gardening, reading, being a PEO and American Lutheran Church member, traveling, taking a “drive”, watching game shows, celebrating with “birthday” club friends, attending Monday happy hour with the girls, and spending time with her family! She was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She brought much laughter to those around her and our world is a little less colorful in her passing.
She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents. Grateful for have shared in Barb’s life are her husband, Kenneth of Huron, SD; two sons, Kevin (DeVee) Dietz of Sturgis, SD; Kirk (Heather) of Huron, SD; grandchildren Kyle (Amanda) Dietz, Harrisburg, SD; Katherine “Katie” Dietz of Des Moines, IA; Kendra (Tyler) Neer of Boerne, TX. As a proud grandma, she leaves behind seven great grandchildren.
Barbara was a lifetime member of American Lutheran Church. Her faith and church family were very important to her. Any memorials on behalf of Barbara can be sent to American Lutheran Church, 155 4th St SE, Huron, SD.
