Barbara M. Artz, age 81, of Huron, died Wednesday January 11, 2012 at Huron Regional Medical Center in Huron. Her funeral service will be 11:00 am Monday, January 16, 2012, at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Huron with burial at 1 pm MST, Tuesday in Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD. Visitation, with family present, will be 6-8 pm Sunday, January 15, 2012 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron; or one hour prior to the service. Barbara Marie Artz was born June 30, 1930 in Aberdeen, SD, to Edward and Eva (Keller) VanRiper. She attended school in Aberdeen. Barbara married Matthew Artz on July 16, 1947 in Aberdeen. The couple moved to Huron in 1965 where the raised their family. Barbara enjoyed crocheting, reading, playing the organ, and she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Barbara was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Huron. Barbara is survived by 10 children, Gwen (Ken) Jensen of Sioux City, IA, Larry Artz of Huron, Diane (Doug) Ramsey of Carson City, NV, Mary (Chuck) Rodesch of Spirit Lake, IA, Vicky (Gary) Ferguson of Huron, Mike Burgess of Huron, Maggie (Scott) Quiram of Huron, Leonard Artz of Sioux City, IA, Kathy (Gary) Stahl of Parker, SD, Wanda (Roy) Schoenwetter of Huron; 16 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Matthew in 1987; daughter, Marilyn in 1956; grandson, Jason in 2003; two brothers and two sisters.
