Arthur LeRoy Crawford, 85, Plainview, Nebraska and formerly of Huron died Friday evening, October 26, 2007 after a long illness at the Royal C. Johnson Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. His funeral service will be 10:00 am Wednesday, October 31 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron with Rev. Steven Brandsrud officiating. Burial to follow at Restlawn Memory Gardens with Military Graveside Rites by the Huron Veterans Council. Visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Wednesday. Art was born November 3, 1921 to Roy and Ragnhild [Christopherson] Crawford in Miner County, SD. He attended country schools and Eastern High School at Madison, SD. He served his country well in the Pacific Theatre of war in the Army Engineers at New Guinea, Philippines, and Luzon. He was honorably discharged in January of 1946. He then worked at Rozum Ford in Huron and later transferred to the ford garage in Plainview, NE. He loved to dance and later years retired to his beloved yard work. He married Eileen Thompson in 1946 at Miller, SD. They celebrated 62 years of happy marriage. To this union two children were born. Survivors are his wife: Eileen of Plainview, NE; son: Rex of Norfolk, NE; daughter: Sherry Hale of Lake Havasu City, AZ; two grandchildren: Paul Hale and Krissy Hale; one sister: LaVonne [Bud] Puffer of Miller, SD; brother-in-laws: Kenny Thompson of Independence, MO and Rodney Thompson of Fontana, CA; sister-in-law: Irene Tilgner of Seattle, WA; numerous relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Donna.
