Arlene Elaine Sheffield, age 82, of Huron, passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at the Huron Regional Medical Center. Her Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 8, 2013 at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Huron, SD, with burial at the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Huron. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, April 7, at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron, SD. Arlene Elaine Kraft was born on April 30, 1930, to Emanuel and Mamie (Christensen) Kraft in Wessington Springs, SD. Arlene attended country school and graduated from Wessington Springs High School. Arlene also graduated from Northwest College of Commerce with an Associate of Arts Degree in Business. On December 24, 1949, Arlene married LuVerne Sheffield at Wessington Springs, SD. They made their home on a farm in rural Wessington Springs. In 1968, they moved to a farm near Huron. Arlene worked as a bookkeeper for Johnson West and Company and the Huron Public Schools until her retirement. Arlene was a longtime member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Huron. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, listening to music, and following the Minnesota Twins baseball games. Grateful for having shared in Arlene's life are her son, Daryl (Diana) Sheffield of Hilliard, OH; 3 daughters: Dr. Lynette Sheffield and Janice Wiersma both of Huron, SD, and Carla (Bruce) Micheel of rural Cavour, SD; 9 grandchildren, Jeri Casper, Brad Micheel, Matt Micheel, Tarasa Sheffield, Nicole Armstrong, Jason Sheffield, Aaron Sheffield, Amber Sheffield and Tyler Micheel; 3 step grandchildren, Mark Wiersma, Chad Wiersma and Aaron Wiersma; 10 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Donald (Stella) Kraft and Lloyd (Margaret) Kraft, both of Wessington Springs, SD; sister Wanda (Mike) Estergard, of Belle Fourche, SD; and many nieces and nephews. Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, LuVerne in 2005; sister, Thelma Joy Kraft; brother, Garfield Kraft; sister-in-law Shirley Kraft; and son-in-law Lee Wiersma.
