Arlene Becker, age 80, of 50 7th St. SE, Huron, died Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at the Huron Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Friday, December 7th at the Welter Funeral Home with Father Terry Anderson officiating. Burial will be at St. Wilfrid Catholic Cemetery at Woonsocket. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Welter Funeral Home or one hour prior to the service at the funeral home Friday morning. Arlene Becker was born Arlene Zapp on April 18, 1927, to Martin and Katherine (Kieffer) Zapp at White Rock, SD. She attended school at White Rock and Woonsocket. On October 27, 1944, Arlene married John Engel and to this union 3 children were born, Rita, Donna and Vickie. On November 12, 1952, Arlene married Kenneth Thompson and they moved to California were she had her own ice cream business. She adopted Kenneth Thompson Jr. and in 1973, they moved to Kenosha, WI. She had her own restaurant for many years. When she sold the restaurant she worked for a number of years at St. Katherines Convent in Kenosha, WI. On September 22, 1979, Arlene married Arnold Becker at Lacrosse, WI. She moved to Huron in 1993 and worked at Sun Quest Village. She loved to make afghans for family and friends and she liked to play cards. She is survived by her 3 daughters, Rita (Gary) Goodall of Hitchcock, Donna (Patrick) Keatts of Aberdeen and Vicki (James) Van Schaick of Rapid City; one son, Kenneth Thompson Jr. of Los Angeles, CA; 12 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Leo (Arlene) Zapp of Carthage, SD and Eugene (Beverly) Zapp of Kenosha, WI; 5 sisters, Katherine Senska of Woonsocket, Betty (Bruce) Redl of Wessington Springs, Matilda Endres of Chamberlain, Lottie (Clyde) Wilson of Reno, NV and Joyce (Edward) Johnson of Kenosha, WI; 2 sisters-in-law, Elaine Schlosser and Elayne Zapp both of Kenosha, WI; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers, Martin, John (Mildred) Zapp, Clarence and Tom Zapp, and 2 brothers-in-law, Eldon Senska and Francis Endres.
