Obituary

Ardella Ardy Brandenburg, age 81, of 1940 Meadowlark Lane, Huron, died Monday, October 18, 2004, at the Huron Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Friday, October 22, at the Congregational United Church of Christ with Rev. Brian Grover and Rev. Randy Frye officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday afternoon and evening and Friday morning at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Friday afternoon. The family will be present from 7:00 to 8:30 PM Thursday evening at the funeral home. The family requests that memorials be directed to the American Heart Association. Ardella K. Brandenburg was born on January 6, 1923, to Nicholas and Katherine (Wahl) Ochsner near Alpena, SD. She was baptized and confirmed in the Reformed Church in Alpena. She attended rural school and graduated from Virgil High School in 1940. Following graduation, she worked in Alpena and Huron. On June 12, 1949, Ardy married Willie Bill Brandenburg. The couple made their home at Wessington Springs where they owned and operated Bills Super Value Grocery Store until August of 1953 when they moved to Huron. Ardy then worked for 20 years as a cook and baker for the Huron College food service. She was a long time member of the Congregational United Church of Christ, a past Sunday School superintendent and teacher, member of the 1620 Circle, Womens Fellowship, and served on many of the committees projects for the church. She is survived by 2 sons, Dr. Verdayne (Mary) Brandenburg of Sioux Falls, and Ron (Carol) Brandenburg of St. Cloud, MN; 1 daughter, Ronda (Rev. Randy) Frye of Lockhart, TX; 7 grandchildren, Jennifer, Rachel, Kelsey, Caitlin, and Christopher Brandenburg, Hannah, and Jesse Frye; 1 brother, Emil (Dorie) Ochsner of Redding, CA; 2 sisters, Edna Neuharth of Huron, and Verna Hemmingson of Watertown; 2 sisters-in-law, Ruby Ochsner of Holland, MI, and Leah Ochsner of Huron; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill on January 6, 1992; 1 sister, Ruth Schnabel; 5 brothers, Ted, Albert, Calvin, Helmuth, and Reuben Ochsner; 3 brothers-in-law, Gideon Neuharth, Pete Hemmingson, and Edwin Schnabel; and 3 sisters-in-law, Lydia Ochsner, Margaret Ochsner, and Orilla Ochsner.
