Annette C. Schimke, age 87, of Pierre, SD, formerly of Huron, SD, passed away on Friday, July 10, 2015 at Avera St. Mary's Hospital in Pierre, SD. Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 16, 2015 at Congregational United Church of Christ in Huron with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Huron. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday July 15 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron, SD; or one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Annette Clara Radke, the daughter of Herbert and Lydia (Hehn) Radke, was born on July 21, 1927 in Marlar Township northwest of Wessington Springs, SD. She attended Plainview and Dale Center Schools and graduated from Wessington Springs High School in 1946. Annette was baptized on May 23, 1943 at Templeton UCC Church. On May 29, 1949, Annette married Irving Schimke at Templeton Congregational Church west of Wessington Springs. They farmed on the family farm northwest of Wessington Springs until 1992 after which they retired and moved to Huron. They became members of the Huron Congregation United Church of Christ. Annette was also a member of Templeton UCC Church Women's Fellowship, Harmony Township Farmer's Union, and Huron Area Senior Center. She enjoyed reading, writing, embroidery, and quilting, especially blue jean quilts. Annette loved spending time with her family and friends especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Annette loved the outdoors. Tending to her bird feeders and taking care of her garden and patio flowers were her favorite summer pastime. Grateful for having shared in her life are her four children, Sharon (Alan) Anker of Pierre, Steven (Patty) Schimke of Center City, MN, Lynn Schimke of Gainesville, GA, and Faye Schimke of Lexington,KY; six grandchildren, John Miller, Watertown, SD, Kevin Miller, Pierre, SD, Damon (Cassie) Miller, Phoenix, AZ, Nicole (Ryan) Flynn, Duluth, MN, Adam (Erin) Schimke, Chisago City, MN, and Brett (Emily Schulz) Schimke, New Berlin, WI; two step-grandchildren, Belynda (Heath) Hinsch, Mankato, MN, Jolene Anker, Austin, TX; five great-grandchildren: Dalton and Peyton Hinsch, Mankato, MN, Kalea Miller, Watertown, SD, Kyan Vavruska, Watertown, SD, Rowen and Sawyer Schimke, Chisago City, MN, Shannon Flynn, Duluth, MN; sister-in-law, Violet Pfeifer; brother-in-law, Aldon (Patricia Nagel) Schimke; and numerous nephews and nieces. Annette was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Irving in 2008; sister, Joyce Reimer; and three brothers-in-law: Robert Thompson Jr., Melvin Pfeifer, and William Reimer.
