Obituary

Anna W. Johnson, age 108, of Huron, SD, passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at the SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron, SD. Her Funeral Service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 3, 2015 at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron, with entombment at the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday. Anna W. Duba the daughter of Joseph G. and Annie (Phillips) Duba, was born on June 24, 1907 in Stiles, North Dakota. She attended her first eight years at a country school in Stiles, ND, before graduating from Lidgerwood High School. Anna also attended Pasadena City College in California where she took business courses. Anna worked at Consolidated- Volte in San Diego as a machine shop inspector on the B-24 Bomber during World War II. After the war Anna moved to Pasadena, CA and began working for Sears Roebuck and Company for five years. She then moved to the San Fernando Valley to help open up a new store there as a receiving clerk. Anna continued to work for Sears for 23 years before retiring in 1969. Anna then moved to Corvallis, OR to take care of an Aunt. Anna moved to huron in 1995. Anna married Arcie A. Wren on November 10, 1970 in Corvallis, OR. Sadly, Arcie passed away just four years later. Anna then married Farrell B. Johnson on November 17, 1997 at the SunQuest Village in Huron, SD. Anna was a member of the Presbyterian Church and was baptized at the Presbyterian Church in Pasadena, CA on April 10, 1949. She also attended the Presbyterian Church in Huron. Anna was a member of the Western Bohemian Fraternal Association Lodge in Lidgerwood, ND. Anna loved volunteering and was a member of the Senior Citizens Center and belonged to a Senior Citizen Recycling Band for fifteen years. Anna had several interests and hobbies. She traveled to Hawaii, took cruises through the Alaska Inside Passage, Switzerland, Italy, France, and many places in the United States. Anna also enjoyed sewing, crocheting, painting, tending to a flower garden, and visiting relatives and friends. Grateful for having shared in Anna's Life are her husband, Farrell Johnson of Huron, SD; nephew, Norman (Kayla) Duba of Hankinson, ND; nephew-in-law, Martin Aaser of Worthington, MN; cousin, Berwyn Svoboda of Vermillion, SD; two other cousins; grand-nephew and many grand-nieces and their children; and stepchildren from her first marriage. Anna was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Arcie Wren in 1974; her brothers; Frank and William Duba; sisters, Mary Polda and Josephine Crandall; and niece Dorothy Aaser.
