Obituary

Amos Jack Stafford, age 91, of 1345 Michigan Ave SW, and formerly of 905 Frank Ave SE, Huron, died Saturday, February 4, 2006, at the Huron Nursing Home. His funeral mass will be at 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 8, at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish with Father Joe Holzhauser officiating. Burial will be at St. Martin Cemetery. Friends may call this Tuesday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the mass at the church Wednesday morning. There will be a Scripture Service at 6:30 PM this Tuesday evening at the funeral home with the family present from 6:30 to 7:30 PM. Amos Joseph Stafford was born on May 4, 1914, to Amos John and Agnes (Marking) Stafford at Dalton, SD. He moved with his family to Huron in 1919 and has lived in Huron since that time. He received his education in Huron Public School and St. Theresa Catholic School in Huron. In 1934, Amos married Elvilda Ericksen. In 1945, Amos married Esther Cooper. He worked as a body-man for Ford Garage and Wilson Fuller Auto Dealership; in the construction industry; and as an electrician until his retirement. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish. His many interests included hunting, fishing, and his C.B. radio for which his C.B. handle was Fisherman. On June 8, 1998, he re-married his first wife, Elvilda Ericksen Mulford. He is survived by 2 daughters, Agnes (Frank) Gilchrist of Iroquois, SD, and Bonnie (Ed) Morgan of Miller, SD; 2 step-daughters, Lila (Glen) Taylor of Huron, SD, and Joyce (Hurley) Phifer of Newnan, GA; 1 step-son, Darrell (Karen) Mulford of Redfield, SD; 5 grandchildren, Deborah (Gene) Russell of Oral, SD, Ward (Betty) Gilchrist of Aberdeen, Penny (Randy) Keating of Iroquois, Peggy (Rick) Eckmann, and Jackie (Brian) Friedrichsen of Wolsey; 18 great grandchildren; 13 great great grandchildren; and 1 brother, Herman (Evelyn) Stafford of Oregon. He was preceded in death by his parents; and both of his wives, Esther and Elvilda.
