Amba E. Welch Jr. (Ed), age 82 of Huron, SD, passed away on Friday, January 2, 2015, at the SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron. A memorial visitation with the family present will be held from 3-5 p.m Friday, January 9, 2015 at the Welter Funeral Home, with burial at a later date. Amba Edward Welch, the son of Amba and Therisa (Crain) Welch, was born on July 23, 1932 in Willow Lake, SD. He attended school in Huron, SD. Ed served his country in the U.S. Army National Guard and was honorably discharged. Ed worked many other jobs before opening his own carpentry business. Ed married Darlene Davidson on June 28, 1951 in Camp Carson, CO. Ed lived in Mission, TX for 20 years before moving back to Huron in 2008. Ed loved horses and partcipated in many rodeos in his younger years. He enjoyed playing cards, woodworking and carpentry, fishing, and playing pool. Ed was always willing to help people. If it needed to be done, he would do it. Ed was always ready with a funny story or a good joke. Grateful for having shared in Ed's life are his four children: Tommy (Susan) Welch of Huron, SD, Deborah (Denny) Meng of Hill City, SD, Leslie (Craig) Skattum of Sioux Falls, SD, and Noreen French of Hitchcock, SD; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Evelyn Busch-Cudmore of Huron, SD; and several nieces and nephews. Ed was preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters: Mildred Kludt, Eldora Munion, and Lila Schwartz.
