Alma Zwanziger, age 86, of 1075 4th St. NE, Huron, died Friday, February 3, 2006, at the Foothill Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Glendora, CA. Her funeral service will be 10:30 AM Saturday, February 11th at American Lutheran Church with Rev. Steven Brandsrud officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call after 2:00 PM Friday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Saturday morning. The family will be present from 7:00 to 8:30 PM Friday evening at the funeral home. Memorials in Almas name may be directed to the American Lutheran Church organ fund. Alma Zwanziger was born Alma Erickson on October 1, 1919, to Martin and Anne (Bjereset) Erickson at Huron. She was baptized in 1926 and confirmed in 1933 at the American Lutheran Church where she has remained a member. She attended the Huron Public Schools. On February 18, 1947, Alma married George Zwanziger at Sioux Falls. She was employed part-time at Armour & Company. After her retirement in 1976, Alma and George spent the next 20 years enjoying their summer cabin at Lake Byron. They wintered in the Palm Springs, CA, area, where they were very active in the Tri-Palms Shuffleboard Club for which Alma served as President for several years. She also won numerous shuffleboard trophies. Alma also enjoyed playing cards, dancing, entertaining, and sunset cruises around Lake Byron. She was a member of the American Lutheran Church, Rebekah Lodge, Huron Whist Club, and the Tri-Palms Shuffleboard Club. She is survived by 1 son, Larry (Kay) Zwanziger of Huron; 1 daughter, JoAnn Zwanziger of Palm Desert, CA; 5 grandchildren, Jeff (Cecile) Zwanziger of Huron, Jon (Marcia) Zwanziger of Huron, Joel (Becky) Zwanziger of Rapid City, Sherri (Daniel) Hamilton of San Dimas, CA, and Carrie Zwanziger of Glendora, CA; 14 great grandchildren; and 1 sister, Esther Bothwell of Palm Desert, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George; 1 son, Robert Zwanziger; 3 brothers, Ed Erickson, Andrew Erickson, and Arthur Erickson; and 2 sisters, Gladys Rudloff, and Mary Cheley.
