Allen R. Schroeder, age 76, of Huron, died Tuesday, January 22, 2013, at his home. His funeral service will be 11:00 am Saturday, January 26, 2013, at Welter Funeral Home in Huron with burial at Restlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery and military honors by the Huron Veterans Council. Visitation will be 1-8 pm Friday, January 25, 2013, at Welter Funeral Home with family present from 6-8 pm; or Saturday morning one hour prior to the service. Allen Ray Schroeder was born March 20, 1936 in Lane, SD to Clarence and Katherine (Holtz) Schroeder. He attended school in Sanborn County country school. Allen joined the South Dakota National Guard, serving two enlistments between 1958 and 1976. Allen married Rose Marie Pedersen at American Lutheran Church in Huron on October 11, 1959. He worked numerous farm jobs, grocery stores, truck stop, and construction jobs. Allen went to work for Edward's Linoleum in 1953 and worked there until 1970, when he and his brother purchased the business, changing the name to Schroeder Bros. Floor Covering. Allen was a volunteer Fire Fighter, starting in 1958. He became a full-time Fireman in 1976, until he retired in 2001. He was also an EMT until March 2006. After his retirement as a fireman, Allen began working at Our Home Inc. doing maintenance. Allen loved camping, fishing, and trap shooting. He loved his family greatly. Allen is survived by his wife of 53 years, Rose Marie Schroeder of Huron; four children, Chad A. Schroeder, Kelly M. Bales, Cody Schroeder, Corey Bales, all of Huron; one great grandchild, Maddix Bales; brother, Leon (Rosanne) Schroeder of Huron; several nieces and nephews. Allen was preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law, Travis Bales.
