Alice Sorenson, age 89, of Aberdeen, died Saturday, January 12, 2008, at Avera Mother Joseph Manor in Aberdeen. Her funeral service will be at 1:00 PM Monday, January 14, at the Welter Funeral Home with Joe Hobbs and Gayle Motley presiding. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday afternoon one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Alice Mathilda Sorenson was born on September 29, 1918, to Chris and Laura (Throndson) Sorenson on the family farm in Roberts County near Sisseton, SD. She attended nearby Long Hollow #3 Country School through the 8th grade. Following her formal education she continued to live on the family farm and do housekeeping duties for neighbors. She moved to Yankton and worked at Sacred Heart Hospital in the dietary department, and during this period of time, she also worked at a bakery and did housekeeping duties for various entities. She later moved to Sioux Falls and worked in the same capacity. Alice retired in November of 1985 and moved to Aberdeen where she worked for Green Thumb. She entered Avera Mother Joseph Manor in Aberdeen in August of 2005. Alice enjoyed tatting as one of her many interests. She is survived by 5 sisters, Pearl (Earl) Mosier of Huron, Ruby Sorenson of Huron, Alma McKelvey of Aberdeen, Grace (Vernon) Molenaar of New London, MN, and Florence Miller of New London, MN; 2 sisters-in-law, Bertha Sorenson of Spearfish, and Jeraldine Sorenson of Sisseton; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 sisters, Agnes Williams, Cora Sorenson, and Esther Sorenson; 4 brothers, Conrad, Magnus, Alvin, and Leonard Sorenson; 2 sisters-in-law, Eloise Sorenson and Florence Sorenson; 3 brothers-in-law, Loverne McKelvey, Richard Miller, and Burnett Williams.
