Alice Mann, age 93 of Huron, SD, passed away on Saturday March 15, 2014 at SunQuest Health Care Center in Huron. Her Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at Restlawn Memory Gardens Mausoleum. There will be no visitation. Alice E. Van De Walle, the daughter of Victor and Maye (Leinen) Van De Walle, was born on September 17, 1920 in rural Wessington, SD. She attended school and graduated from Virgil High School in 1939. Alice worked for Kaiser Aluminum on the west coast during World War II, before moving to Coeur d'Alene, ID, where she lived for two years. Alice also worked for the Beadle County Courthouse from 1955 until 1973. Alice married James N. Hewitt in 1946 and to this union was born three daughters, Roxana, Victoria, and Judy. Alice married Owen A. Mann in her later years. Alice was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Huron for many years. She enjoyed needlework and loved to travel. Grateful for having shared in Alice's life are her three daughters, Roxana (Richard) Brown of Austin TX, Victoria White of Nevada, and Judith (Tracey) Hearst of Thonatossa, FL; seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; brother, Clark Van De Walle of Yankton, SD; three sisters, Leona (Ted) Walters of Glenwood Springs, CO, Shirley (Ed) Kuestermeyer of Virgil, SD, and Joyce Eggleston of Rapid City, SD; and several nieces and nephews. Alice was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, James Hewitt and Owen Mann; and brother, Eugene Van De Walle.
