Alice M. Burke, 94, died Friday, January 11, 2008, at the North Country Regional Hospital in Bemidji, MN. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:00 noon, Saturday, January 19, at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Huron with Father Terry Anderson officiating. Burial will be at St. Martin Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5-8 PM at the Welter Funeral Home with family present from 5-8 pm, or Saturday morning one hour prior to the funeral mass at the church. Alice Burke was born Alice Mary Mette on November 10, 1913, to Wesley and Emma Dessi(Clawson) Mette on a farm near Roswell, SD. She graduated from Argonne High School in 1933. On April 25, 1939, Alice married Phil Burke. They had 3 daughters. They lived in Howard, SD, until 1969 when they moved to Huron. Phil died on January 1, 1984, in Arizona. Alice moved to Bemidji in 2001. She was a member of St. Philips Catholic Church in Bemidji. In Huron, she was a long time member of Huron Area Senior Center and other organizations. Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Patricia (James) Barthorpe of Bemidji, MN, Mary (Norman) Schardt of Menomonee Falls, WI, and Jean (Jerry) Hemmingson of Sun City, CA; 9 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Agnes Newman of Howard, SD, and Ardis Monroe of Canistota, SD; 1 sister-in-law, Lorraine Mette of Howard, SD; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Phil; and 5 brothers, Robert, Henry, Richard, Wilmar and Howard Mette.
