Albert R. Orth, age 95, of Huron and formerly of Alpena, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 25, 2019 at Avantara Huron (formerly SunQuest Healthcare Center) in Huron, SD. His funeral service will be at 1:30 PM on Monday, October 28, 2019 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Wessington Springs with burial at Rest Haven Cemetery in Alpena. Visitation with the family present will be from 4-6 PM on Sunday, October 27, 2019 at Welter Funeral Home or visitation one hour prior to the funeral service on Monday at the church.

Albert Raymond Orth was born on January 26, 1924 to parents Gustav and Johanna (Edelman) Orth on the farm he lived his life on. He was the youngest of four children, he joined two sisters and a brother. He grew up and attended Orth Country School and Alpena High School.

He married his partner in life, Luella Ammon, on December 9, 1945. They lived on the farm their entire married life. Farming was their life. Albert was on the township board for several years, 4-H leader, and on the church board for Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Wessington Springs. Albert never met a stranger, he loved to visit with people. He also enjoyed collecting and restoring John Deere tractors and machinery. One of his great joys was his 1924 Model T, which had been bought by his parents the year he was born.

Albert is survived by two sons and one daughter; Gary (Kathy) Orth and Bruce Orth of Alpena, Nancy (Dean) Slostad of Watertown; Six grandchildren, Jodi (Gerrad) Doering, Gerry (Kim) Orth of, Traci (Ryder) Schweitzer, Dr. Jennifer Slostad (Richard Anderson), Stephanie (Martin) Waller, and Drs. Brody (Jessica) Slostad; nine great-grandchildren and one more on the way; two step great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Marion Meyer of White Lake, SD.

Albert was preceded in death by his parents and in-laws; his wife Luella; his daughter Linda; his brother, sisters and their spouses.
