Adam Johns Bock, 46, of Huron, South Dakota, passed away on July 22, 2026. He will be remembered for his quiet strength, his devotion to his children, and his unmistakable love for the Kansas City Chiefs.

A service to celebrate Adam’s life will take place at 6:00 p.m., on Friday, August 14, 2026 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron. Memorial visitation will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Friday evening. 

Adam was born November 30, 1979, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Susan Johns Welch and Terry Bock. He attended Lee Summit Elementary School before his family moved to Huron, South Dakota in 1990, when he was in the 5th grade.

From an early age, Adam’s talents leaned toward the arts. He spent several years in marching band playing the trombone, eventually rising to drum major. He was musically gifted and could play multiple instruments, and he also sang with the Madrigals show choir and took the stage in school plays. He carried his love of music with him to South Dakota State University, where he spent a year marching with the Pride of the Dakotas, trombone in hand.

Adam returned to Huron and began working at Prostrollo’s General Motors. In December 2002, he welcomed his first child, James Evan, into the world, followed by Haley Elizabeth in 2005 and Madalyne Mary in 2009. He later joined Jim and Jake’s Sprinkler Systems, where he installed and maintained sprinkler systems for the rest of his working life. Those who knew Adam knew his devotion to the Kansas City Chiefs — it was rare to see him in anything that wasn’t team apparel. He enjoyed golfing, often with his friend and coworker Mike Waldner, found real joy in cooking and grilling for his family, and was most content with a daily Coke (Coca-Cola) and a smoke. Above all, he was a present and loving father — cheering on James at his basketball games, watching Haley play softball, and always ready to help with Madalyne’s marching band activities. He also loved the occasional trip out of town to catch a concert.

Adam was a man of few words to most people, but those who knew him well knew a warmer, more open side of him. Even-keeled and even-tempered, he found contentment in a simple, low-drama life in Huron among the people he loved.

Adam was preceded in death by his father, Terry Bock; his maternal grandfather, Bernard Johns; and, most recently, his step-grandmother Barbara Dietz.

He is survived by his three children, James Evan Bock (23), Haley Elizabeth Bock (21), and Madalyne Mary Bock (17); his fiancée, Kimberly Meyers; his mother, Susan (Johns) Welch, and step-father, Tom Welch; and his half-sister, Katie Dietz.
