Ada Pownell, age 94, of Huron, passed away on Monday, August 7, 2023 at Avantara in Huron. Her Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M., on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at First Presbyterian Church in Huron. Burial will be held at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Huron. Visitation, with the family present, will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
Ada Pearl was born on November 14, 1928 to parents Henry and Nellie (Rumelhart) Nyhouse in Loomis, South Dakota. She grew up in the Loomis and Wolsey area, graduating in 1946 from Huron High School.
Ada married James Pownell on July 14, 1950, in Broadland, South Dakota. To this union, two children were born, Randall and Roxanne. Ada worked at Municipal Court, State Farm and Blue and Haeder Law Office. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, lake sports, card playing and traveling. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, NSA, Master Gardeners, and the Senior Center.
She is survived by her children, Randall (Jan) Pownell of Spokane, WA and Roxanne (Gary) Gogolin of Huron; two grandchildren, Geoffrey (Lisa) Gogolin and Amanda Gogolin; 2 great-grandchildren, Judson and Brantley Gogolin; and several nieces and nephews, including special nephew, Roger (Reva) Pownell of Huron and special niece Rosalie Pownell of Huron.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James in 2019; two sisters and one brother.
