Ada Petersen, age 90, of Huron, SD, died Sunday, February 23, 2014, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls. Her funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 28, at Welter Funeral Home with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be Thursday, February 27, from 6-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home; or Friday afternoon one hour prior to the service. Ada Petersen, daughter of Adolph and Katie (Pieschke) Petersen, was born on August 15, 1923, in Clark, SD. She grew up on the family farm in the Clark area and attended country school through the 8th grade. On December 19, 1945, Ada married Leonard Petersen in Webster, SD. They farmed in the Clark area until 1952 when they moved into Huron. Ada worked for Armour & Company in the café until 1977 when she retired to take care of her husband's health needs. She was a past member of the Mother's Club, and was passionate about regularly donating blood to the blood bank. She loved to crochet, knit, sew, bake and cook. She is survived by 5 children, Dennis Petersen, Glen Petersen, Carolyn Petersen, and Marjorie Walton, all of Huron, and Marilyn Mitchell of Des Moines, IA; 34 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; 1 brother, Charles (Dixie) Pieschke of Huron; 4 sisters, Charlotte Haight of California, Ruth (Larry) Hartley of Ft. Pierre, Kathleen Clausen of Clark, and Ruby Pieschke of Clark; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard on March 23, 1998; son-in-law, Kelsy Walton; 3 brothers, Harold Pieschke, Ray Pieschke, and Kenny Pieschke; sister-in-law, Sally Pieschke; and brother-in-law, Ferd Clausen.
