Life Legacy


Brett Boomer, age 43, of Alpena, died suddenly Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at Huron Regional Medical Center.

His funeral will be 2:00 pm Sunday, February 26, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church in Huron with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Visitation with family present will be 6-8 pm Saturday at Welter Funeral Home in Huron with a prayer service at 7:00 pm; or one hour prior to the service.

Brett Alan Boomer was born February 5, 1969 in Minneapolis, MN to William and Bonnie (Winter) Gross. After his parents divorced when he was two, his mother married Jerry Boomer and Jerry adopted Brett. Brett was baptized and confirmed in the faith.

Brett attended Minnetonka High School. He entered the Navy on December 28, 1986 and was honorably discharged in December 28, 1989. After he was discharged he returned to Minneapolis and worked various jobs. In 2007, he moved to Alpena to be closer to family and work at Stan’s.

Brett enjoyed all sports especially golf and basketball and always enjoyed attending his cousins activities. Brett was instrumental in starting the Wednesday night volleyball and basketball leagues in Alpena. He loved music and movies and especially loved spending time with family and friends.

Brett is survived by his brother, Todd Boomer of Hopkins, MN; three great aunts, Betty (Clarence) Hainy of Mitchell, Darlene Hodgson of Aberdeen, Eloa (Orville) Kroeker of CA; aunt, Calajean Kopfmann of Huron; cousins, Mike (Lisa) Kopfmann, Peggy Smith; second cousins, Krissa (Logan Korkow) Smith, Jared Smith, Alex Kopfmann, Megan Kopfmann, Austin Kopfmann, Zach Kopfmann; Stan Kopfmann and Terry Smith.

Brett was preceded in death by his mother, Bonnie Boomer in 1991; his maternal grandparents, E.R. (Cal) and Zaida Winter; and a cousin, Kristi Kopfmann.
